Police Confirm Deaths of Four Suspected Cultists in Benue

The authorities in Benue State have verified that four individuals died during an altercation involving alleged members of criminal gangs.

The incident took place at a well-known pub situated in Akpehe, Makurdi, which is the capital of Benue, late on Sunday evening.

Witnesses reported that the confrontation occurred when a cluster of young individuals, believed to be affiliated with a cult group, stormed into the bar approximately at 8 PM on Sunday.

"No one knows exactly what happened prior to when the alleged cult members raided the bar, but as soon as they arrived, they started firing randomly, resulting in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries," stated the witness.

Subsequently, security personnel arrived and sealed off the region.

Regarding the event that occurred on Monday, CSP Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Benue State Command, verified that four individuals died and numerous others sustained injuries.

She mentioned that the wounded individuals are presently undergoing medical care at an unspecified healthcare facility.

She stated, "A suspected cult-related incident occurred in Akpehe, and an investigation has been initiated. It is confirmed that four individuals lost their lives, with several others undergoing medical care at the facility."
