Baseball: Orioles' Sugano Pitches 5 Shutout Innings for Third Victory
Tomoyuki Sugano secured the victory by pitching five innings and allowing only five hits, as the Baltimore Orioles managed to hold off the New York Yankees with a score of 4-3 on Monday.
Sugano (3-1) fanned eight batters in a 95-pitch outing at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. He navigated through trouble in the first inning when he issued one walk and hit a batter with the bases loaded.
In the third inning, despite having two runners on base, the 35-year-old newcomer fanned all three batters he faced. However, the Orioles took a 4-0 lead later when Ryan O'Hearn hit a three-run homer in their half of the inning.
He mentioned, 'I successfully utilized my fastballs.' He added, 'Improving the pitch sequence leading up to my (strikeout pitch) splitters made a difference.'
This marked Sugano's first scoreless appearance out of his last six Major League Baseball outings. His 3.00 ERA stands as the lowest among all starting pitchers for the Orioles.
