Nigerian Investors Set to Flood Ethiopia as Country Unveils New Opportunities: Deputy Head of Mission Speaks
On April 9, 2025, ENA reported from Addis Ababa that Nigeria's Deputy Head of Mission, Maxy Ogbede, stated more Nigerian entrepreneurs are expected to invest in Ethiopia as the nation progressively liberalizes its market for private enterprises.
During an exclusive interview with ENA, the deputy head of mission at the Nigerian Embassy in Addis Ababa mentioned that Nigeria aims to enhance trade relationships with Ethiopia.
As per his statement, an increasing number of Nigerians are expected to move to Ethiopia due to the country’s economic liberalization and the growing involvement of private enterprises.
He additionally highlighted that the Nigerian economy has remained accessible to investors worldwide, and he mentioned, “We aim to attract Nigerians to come to Ethiopia for conducting their business.”
Concerning bilateral relations, Ogbede stated that they are extremely strong. "Our relationship with Ethiopia has been excellent since 1960, and it continues to thrive."
On nearly an everyday schedule, Ethiopian Airlines operates flights to Lagos, Kano, and Abuja, which indicates a significant influx of Nigerians as well as many Ethiopians traveling to Nigeria, he noted.
Nevertheless, both nations aim to enhance their relationship regarding migration and visa regulations, along with other areas.
The second-in-command at the embassy thinks that Nigeria and Ethiopia, which are the most populated nations in Africa with populations exceeding 230 million and 120 million respectively, hold significant promise for the future.
These nations have excellent opportunities to enhance their bilateral ties even more, bringing mutual benefits to both, as he pointed out.
We possess robust cultural legacies, and we embrace similar multiracial diversity as seen in Ethiopia. Consequently, our nations share numerous similarities with Ethiopia, and there is potential for both countries to thrive alongside each other in the future.
Ogbede highlighted the importance of addressing this issue. Reinforces efforts to unite and strengthen the bonds between the peoples of various nations, particularly enhancing the robust connections among the most populated countries on the continent.
The deputy head of mission highlighted that Ethiopia and Nigeria have numerous shared values, underscored by their robust bilateral relations.
