Mundra Port Leads the Way as India’s First to Reach 200 Million Tonne Cargo Milestone

Ahmedabad (Gujarat), India, April 2 (ANI): The Mundra Port in Gujarat, which stands as the country’s biggest private port, has established a new standard by being the first Indian port to manage more than 200 million metric tons of freight.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) achieved its peak performance to date. cargo handling In March 2025, the company processed 41.5 million tonnes and reported an annual increase of 9 percent, according to a corporate announcement.

The growth was mainly due to a 19 percent increase in container cargo along with a 5 percent boost in liquid and gas deliveries.

In the fiscal year 2024-25, Mundra Port processed 200.7 million metric tons of cargo, surpassing the significant threshold of 200 million metric tons—a milestone reflecting the enhancement of India’s logistical strength.

Moreover, Vizhinjam Port in Kerala achieved a significant landmark by managing more than 100,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).

In the period from 2024 to 2025, APSEZ handled a combined cargo volume totaling 450.2 million metric tons (MMT). This included an increase of 20 percent in container traffic and a rise of nine percent in liquid and gas cargoes.

The logistics industry experienced an expansion as well, with railway cargo increasing to 0.64 million TEUs (+8 percent) and general purpose warehouse inventory storage climbing to 21.97 million metric tons (+9 percent).
