Avedakpa (VR), April 2 - The members of the Akatsi North District Assembly from the Volta Region have ratified Mr. Bless Kodjo Katamani as the newly appointed District Chief Executive for their locality.
With every member concurring, all 18 representatives on the assembly—comprised of 12 elected officials and 6 appointed by the government—voted for the candidate, reflecting complete approval at 100 percent.
This resounding win indicates that Mr. Katamani has obtained more than the two-thirds majority needed from the assembly members, thus gaining approval as mandated by the Local Governance Act.
Mr. Katamani, in his acceptance speech, conveyed his enthusiasm and appreciation to the assembly members, traditional leaders, influencers, and citizens for their bravery and confidence in him.
"We've made new history today with my complete endorsement, which signifies the start of a new chapter in the progress of the Akatsi North District. We must collaborate and strive to elevate our cherished district to its peak," he stated.
Mr. Katamani recognized that the triumph lies with the assembly members and the community, who have bestowed upon him the authority to guide the district toward progress in sectors like education, athletics, healthcare, infrastructure, road construction, and more.
He guaranteed that his doors would remain open for innovative suggestions aimed at steering the advancement of the region and encouraged chiefs, assembly members, stakeholders, and the general public to engage actively in decision-making activities that could foster the district’s growth.
My administration will be open to all, embracing input from people irrespective of their political leanings. Indeed, we can rejoice in our win, but the primary emphasis must now shift toward diligently striving to raise the quality of life within the district.
Mr. Katamani likewise conveyed his thanks to President John Dramani Mahama for granting him the chance to lead efforts aimed at fostering development in the region. He urged the young people to welcome this triumph and strive toward a more prosperous future.
Mr. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, praised theAssembly members during his address, acknowledging their hard work as more than mere approval of the President’s nominations. He emphasized that this process is centered around adopting a new agenda focused on realizing visions for development, progress, and wealth creationforAkatsi North, the broaderregion, andthe whole nation.
He stated, "As the representative of my home district and the initial DCE for Akatsi North, this universal endorsement fills me with great happiness, as it serves as an excellent model for all other districts within the region to emulate."
Mr. Cephas Weto, the Assembly Member for the Agormor electoral area, told the Ghana News Agency that confirming the nominee shows all members' willingness to collaborate effectively and achieve significant successes with the new District Chief Executive (DCE).
Several locals interviewed by the Ghana News Agency expressed gratitude to the assembly members for their initiative and encouraged them to strive for comprehensive development within the region. They emphasized that "to whom much is given, much is required," stressing that the newly appointed District Chief Executive should be ready to fulfill his commitments and duties effectively.
Mr. Katamani, the fourth District Chief Executive of Akatsi North district, was duly inaugurated by personnel from the Electoral Commission.
