Abuja2025: Customs Chief Urges Volleyball Squad to Honor Nigeria's First Lady
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi MFR, has encouraged the Customs women’s volleyball squad to represent Nigeria and make Senator Oluremi Tinubu CON, who is also the First Lady, proud during the forthcoming 2025 African Women’s Club Volleyball Championship.
The esteemed competition will take place in Nigeria from April 1 to 14 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, where the Customs VC will represent their nation on home turf.
Adeniyi recognized the First Lady’s steadfast backing for women’s sports and her efforts toward strengthening young girls, noting that her dedication acts as a significant source of motivation for the team.
"We greatly value Mrs. First Lady for agreeing to serve as the Grand Patron of this tournament and for her steadfast support of sports in Nigeria," stated Adeniyi.
He similarly commended her efforts for various national squads like D'Tigress and the Super Falcons, emphasizing how she has played a key part in propelling women's athletics onto the world stage.
Adeniyi voiced his belief that the Customs volleyball squad would deliver an impressive showing as a gesture of appreciation for the initiatives taken by the First Lady.
"I have observed her work with D'Tigress and the Super Falcons. Should our squad deliver an exceptional performance, we would be honoring her," he said.
He additionally highlighted her influence on young girls, specifically within the realms of education and fostering talents, noting that her programs have created chances and brought optimism to numerous individuals.
The head of customs highlighted the team's duty to step up to the challenge, making sure they create a memorable impact during the competition.
"I'm excited about presenting something significant to her as a gesture of gratitude for everything she has done for Nigerian women," he stated.
Backed by the First Lady and driven by the ambitions of the whole country, Customs VC is set to leave an indelible impression on the championship.
The teams competing in the African Women’s Volleyball Inter-Club Championship include Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Al Ahly Sporting Club (AHL) from Egypt, Zamalek Sports Club (ZMK) from Egypt, AS Douanes from Burundi (BUR), Sococim (SOC) from Senegal, Volleyball Club La Grace (VGL) from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Volleyball Club La LOI (VLL) also from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Other entities include the National Alcohol and Liquor Factory (NAL) from Ethiopia, Club Feminin De Carthage (CFC) based in Tunisia, Forces Armées et Police (FAP) representing Cameroon, Litto Team Volleyball (LTV) also hailing from Cameroon, and Maya Kane Evolution (MKE), another group from Cameroon.
Also taking part are Spiking Stars Volleyball (SSV) from Botswana, Club Omnisports Descartes from Côte d'Ivoire, Queen’s Volleyball Club (QVC) from Benin, Rwanda Revenue Authority Volleyball Club (RRA) from Rwanda, and Armée Patriotique Rwandaise Volleyball Club (APR) also from Rwanda.
The Police Volleyball Club (PVC) from Rwanda, the Kenya Prisons Volleyball Club (PRI) from Kenya, the Kenya Commercial Bank Volleyball Club (KCB) also from Kenya, the Kenya Pipeline Company Volleyball Club (KPC), again based in Kenya, along with Muzinga Volleyball Club (MUZ) originating from Burundi, the Gender Light Club (GLC) which hails from Burundi as well, and finally, the Nigeria Navy team (NN).
