Trump Sparks New Backlash with Car Tariffs
Germany has stated it won't retreat and has called for Europe to react " firmly Following the announcement from U.S. President Donald Trump of a 25% tariff on cars that aren’t produced within the United States.
Similar to Berlin, Paris has also denounced the action, referring to it as a “ waste of time ," whereas Canada has characterized the choice as a " direct and incoherent attack ." In the meantime, China has levelled accusations at Trump for breaching global commerce laws.
After the announcement, multiple international car manufacturers experienced a significant drop in their stock prices.
Trump has also warned of potentially more severe sanctions should Europe side with Canada, cautioning that such alignment could present an “ economic threat .”
The new tariffs will come into force on April 2.
